Indiscipline and Transposition in Souvenirs with Quetzalapanecáyotl: Feminist Speculative Gestures for Restitution

Abstract

In recent decades, the restitution of cultural heritage has gained increasing relevance alongside growing demands for the return of objects to their communities of origin. This article proposes an indisciplinary and transpositional approach toward feminist speculative gestures within research and creative processes for rethinking restitution. Within this framework, the project Penacho vs. Penacho: Souvenirs with Quetzalapanecáyotl (2024-2026) is explored, developed in collaboration with specialists in sustainability and the environment. The author considers the transpositional and indisciplinary approach to be urgent as a means of fostering alternative forms of organization and collaboration that connect academic and artistic knowledge with that to which we feel bound.
