Migrant Experiences, Knowledges, and Countervisualities: Approaches between Research and Participatory Cinema

Abstract

This article reflects on the scope of implementing participatory cinema as a means of understanding the experiences and knowledges of migrant individuals through the audiovisual materials generated in a creative collaboration. With regard to unilateral representations and visualities of this community, it delves into their capacity to exercise the right to look and to be looked at, thereby producing countervisualities of mobility. Among its conclusions, the author notes that
this project made it possible to capture sensory dimensions of the migratory experience through audiovisual means, while also positioning migrants as the authors of the narratives surrounding their biographical and migratory trajectories.
