The objective of this paper is to reflect on emerging designs in the field of sustainability with the aim of building sustainable future scenarios. The research was organized in two stages: a bibliographic review of the literature and formal sources, along with an analysis of trends and a selection of Latin American case studies that address the relationship between technology and sustainability, among others. The authors conclude that it is crucial to avoid interpreting what the planet “wants” or “needs” from a singular perspective. A great deal of humility is necessary to envision what future scenarios can be designed to improve the quality and stability of life on Earth.
