The article contains the speech of philosopher Martha Nussbaum when she was awarded an honorary degree as Doctor of Philosophy by the University of Antioquia in 2015. It addresses the gradual disappearance of the arts and humanities from university curricula due to political positions which emphasize education for proit rather than education for inclusive citizenship. In conclusion, the article states that this tendency threatens democratic life and evades equality and respect for other human beings, as well as building trust among nations.
